Spare Tire Mount Gas Container
Inventor: Tai-Ming Chen
ABSTRACT
This invention is a Gas container with size and shape that fits inside a tire rim. It can be carried with a spare tire rim that mounts under
vehicle. It does not occupy any more space nor required any modify on vehicle. It’s not within cabin space so it won’t let gas smell get into
vehicle interior space.
Summary
Emergency gas container isn’t an easy item to carry. First of all, it has certain volume, that’s why it can carry gasoline. Its size pretty much
determines how much gasoline it can carry. Second of all, after it has been used, even once, it’s too dirty and smelly for the inside of car,
SUV or minivan.
That’s why this invention comes in handy. It’s sized and shaped to fit in the hollow space inside a tire rim, in this case a spare tire wheel. It’
s round and has a notch or hole at the center, somewhat like a doughnut shape, to get clear with the hub-mounting surface of the rim. (Fig 1
shows this gas container lying down on its side) (Fig 2 shows how much space is there inside a wheel)
There are different methods to mount a spare wheel on a vehicle. Few popular methods mount spare wheel outside of vehicle cabin space.
(Fig 3) For under mount spare tire, which is most popular method among SUV, minivans and pickup trucks, gas container can fit from under
the wheel directly. Some passenger cars also use this method. For back mounting spare wheel, which typically used on SUV, there is a
wheel mounting surface sticks out from back of the vehicle. Gas container has to go in first and let the mounting structure goes through the
center hole of container, then spare tire can be mounted around the gas container.
(Fig 4) The gas container is round shape but has a flat surface as bottom to stand on when stands vertically. Away from the flat bottom, part
of container’s body narrow and hollow out to make a handle for easy carrying. Containers back is also flat so it can rest horizontally. An
opening with closing cap is located at a place that is far away from both flat sides, so no matter which side it rest on, opening is away from
its liquid contain. There is a hole or just a notch, depends on spare tire mounting method, at center of container to clear wheel mounting
surface or wheel mounting structure as in back mount spare tire.
Container can be tightly attached to spare wheel with a tighten belt that goes through gaps of wheel spokes. The belt also goes through
handler space and flat bottom to ensure container won’t move within the wheel. (Fig 5)
